There are so many sparkling moments throughout my 20-year journey that may be considered life-changing. Either for good or bad, each instance marks important milestones in my life. Also, applying to RMIT university for post-secondary is the most transformative event in the last two years.
As I just finished the first assignment and sat down to reflect on my time in Making Media at RMIT, it is roughly 2 months since my first offline semester started. The first assignment has given me an enjoyable time. I have got some well-needed practical skills when doing the podcast. Nevertheless, after completing the first assignment, I realized that I have a fear of public speaking after two years of pandemic lockdown. On the peer-review day for the podcast’s brief, I could not get a word even though I have prepared for hours and hours the night before. I was nervous and shaking with fear in front of my teacher and classmates, I thought I was faint to dead. Aftermath, I finished my part but felt upset about it because I knew I have messed up my group work. My teammates, however, did not blame me but offered some words of encouragement, “We tried our best, good work, Binh”. Those warm words made my day so much better that I could tell my fear was almost dissipated. When I came home, I admitted to myself that I had not properly prepared for my duty. I would take experience the next time to be better.
At this point, I am looking forward to assignment 2 which is involved even more design techniques. I am assigned as the main designer for the magazine project as I am the only member in my group who have proficiency in computer software for design, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Besides, I have to flexibly coordinate with my members. We sometimes get stuck on possible strategic solutions for the magazine outline and ideas. We told ourselves that everyone has a chance to give a recommendation about how this process might work better and what we should do next in order to stick with the main theme of the magazine. When everyone is looking forward to the same goal, success will do its work.
In conclusion, assignments 1 and 2 provide me with the opportunity to work in a high-pressure, team environment in order to meet the deadlines.
